Apprentices with IBEW Local 103 to be Recognized
Boston, MA – June 22, 2022 — The Community Mentoring Team, expanding economic opportunities for young Black Bostonians, today announced that it will celebrate CMT Mentees participating in the electrician apprenticeship program with IBEW Local 103. This group of young people will be recognized for having completed orientation and training for acceptance into the apprenticeship program, which prepares them for union licensing. The event honoring these apprentices will be hosted by IBEW Local 103 at their headquarters in Dorchester on June 30, 2022.
“Community Mentoring Team is dedicated to enabling a self-sustaining Black community, and Local 103’s apprenticeship program will help expand job and economic opportunities for young people of color in Boston,” said Bill Moran, founder and CEO of Community Mentoring Team. “Local 103’s commitment to training and licensing a workforce is instrumental in building Boston’s future.”
“Our apprenticeship program with the Community Mentoring Team is a win-win for our union and the communities in which we live, work, and raise our families,” noted Lou Antonellis, Business Manager/Financial Secretary at IBEW, Local 103. “Partnering with CMT helps advance our mission to provide Greater Boston developers with the best trained, most efficient, and safest electricians and telecommunications specialists while fostering our Union's values of economic fairness, equal opportunity, and charitable giving. We’re thrilled to welcome this new class of CMT Mentees to Local 103.”
Local 103 is part of the Community Mentoring Team’s growing specialty trades partner network, which includes the National Electrical Contractors Association, Empower DEI for Boston’s minority and women-owned electrical contractors, Local 17 sheet metal workers, and Local 550 for sprinkler fitters and apprentices.
